DePaul Loop Campus Master Plan

DePaul University, the nation’s largest Catholic University, complements it main Lincoln Park Campus with a burgeoning downtown Loop Campus which houses the University’s colleges and schools of Law, Commerce, Accounting, New Learning, Liberal Arts & Sciences and Computing and Digital Management. These are complemented with the university library and its primary central administration center. The masterplan projected growth trends, adjacency and functional deficiencies for the Campus and suggested an immediate expansion demand for over 100,000 sf, short term need of another 150,000 sf  and a relocation requirement for over 215,000 sf. In addition to re-use of its three existing campus buildings, the plan examined options for lease and purchase of ancillary space nearby in addition to new construction and renovation opportunities that existed nearby. The creation of a recognizable and appropriately “institutional” loop campus image was stressed. The successful master plan led to the acquisition of the adjacent 650,000 SF Goldblatt Department store and relocation into it of the School of Commerce, downtown student center, main student oriented administrative center, loop campus library and a new University conference center. This also allowed for expansion of the Law School and the other academic units in the original campus. Buildings.
